Camping at Quartz Creek: Skipping rocks and climing trees

Our sweet friends Meghan and Joel are off to new adventures in Oregon later this month, so to celebrate their last Alaskan summer we spent a weekend camping at Quartz Creek Campground in Cooper Landing. The campground is right off the banks of Kenai Lake so we spent an afternoon throwing rocks and climbing this curvy tree. The kids even decided to wade into the icy waters of the lake.

This year is the first time I’ve ever camped in an actual campground since moving to Alaska. It seems you have to book a site months in advance here. Usually our camping trips mean on a Thursday we decide to pack up the car for the weekend and hit the road the next day with no advance planning. But it sure was nice to have a picnic table and actual facilities.
